Hugh Brand, 69, of Apache Junction was arrested after trying to get help to rape and kill a minor in Phoenix.
Pheonix Police Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) detectives arrested Brand on charges of suspicion of child sex trafficking, attempted sexual conduct with a minor and conspiracy to commit murder, according to Maricopa County Superior Court records.
Maricopa Court documents said Phoenix Police went to check on a woman, who is a known prostitute, and she shared details about Brand’s plans.
Documents go on to say Brand said he was going to pay the prostitute $400 to help him find a teen girl and buy a gun. The documents say Brand also had a plan to dispose of the teen’s body in the desert.
Phoenix Police stated undercover detectives followed Brand as he retrieved cash from an ATM and stopped at a Harbor Freight Tools to buy rope and zip ties which they later found in his car.
Brand is being held on a $2 million bond after Phoenix Police said that Brand was “a danger to society and children and has access to weapons.“
